More and more we are hearing about people becoming ill through contamination and processed foods. E-Coli, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity and Cancer are just a few health issues related to the quality of what we eat. What we are eating is making us very sick and it's costing us a fortune. We know that bad foods are bad for your health. It turns out that they are also bad for the national pocketbook. One expert has estimated that healthcare costs related to obesity are $118 billion per year. Seventy two percent of Americans are overweight , with one third being medically obese( Canadians are not far behind). One in three children today will be born diabetic in their lifetime and the life expectancy of our population is declining for the first time in human history. Cheap food is cheap for a reason. Companies/Producers source out the cheapest products to produce an end result. Cheap food! This can be anything from cheese to vegetables to crackers to cereal to eggs to ground beef to bacon.........anyways, you get the picture! I remember reading a statistic on what families spent on groceries in the 1950's in comparison to now. Thirty two percent of incomes in the 50's were spent on food. At this point we are spending approximately 12% to fill our bellies. I can be as guilty as the next person when it comes to a sale. Wow, crackers on at 2 for 1, cheese bars on for half price ...and the list goes on. It can be very hard to purchase top quality, nutrient dense food when the price tag is high. I find myself having to think twice when purchasing. Once.....I read the ingredients on the package...Twice.....I put it back on the shelf. This doesn't happen all the time, but definitely more frequently.
I have many customers that tell me they are growing a garden, raising their own chickens and keeping laying hens for eggs in their backyard. Some would believe they are taking business away from us. My belief is "more power to them". I love to hear that people are taking food security into their own hands, literally! It is through this endeavor that our customers have come to understand that we cannot produce a $1 cheeseburger, so to speak. It takes more time, more energy and more resources to create that beef-pork-chicken-turkey and eggs with the nutrients that they should have. We are constantly revisiting our methods to be sure that the product you are purchasing is worth the money you invest in it. Having said this we hope we have shed a little light as to why we feel our products are worth the money you spend on them. Investing in your families health is far less expensive than the alternatives that cheap food has to offer.
For over three decades researchers and nutritionists have found that grass fed beef is lower in saturated fats and higher in all the good fats and other important nuturients than meat produced in feedlot environments. Our beef will have higher vitamin K,A and E, greater omega 3 fats, have higher levels of antioxidants, higher levels of good naturally occurring trans fats(conjugated linoleic acid) and at least six seven times more betacerotene that feedlot cattle. It would seem that you don`t have to feel guilty about eating red meat at this rate.
Our boxed meats have become so popular that we are offering a new program that will be offering Beef Boxes, Pork Boxes, Chickens and Turkey when in season. Put your name on our customer list and name the preference of meat box that suits your family and you will automatically be called when the it is available. I will be posting on facebook and our website, just to give a heads up on time of availability. Our boxes have become an economical and popular product! Contact us and we would be happy to help!
