We've just finished making Maple Syrup. This year it was a combined family affair. With our children collecting the sap and the hubby and my brother boiling , a beautiful dark golden syrup was produced. As I was placing these tasty bottles of liquid on the shelves I started to think about its simplicity. Pure Maple Syrup! This spurred me to another line of thought(I can be scarily random) . I thought of all of the labeling on food products. Namely eggs and meats. It always good to observe how products are being marketed. Let's talk about eggs. You have the choice of Organic, Free Range, Free Run, Omega Enriched, Grain Fed, Pastured, Vegetarian, Cage Free and probably some labels I'm missing. The meat department is the same. I think about all these choices and go cross eyed. Brain overload. Marketing has a great way of leading you down the garden path of insanity. The word simplicity came back to me. So did honesty. These labels, if you research them, can be misleading. I thought about how I've gotten to know my local honey producers. That golden jar of honey I have purchased is no longer just a jar of honey. It has a story. I know where it came from, where the bees did their collecting and how the liquid is extracted from the comb. I've formed a relationship with the producers , whereby I can ask questions and they are happy to answer them. A trust has been created because of their willingness to share their vast knowledge of their bees and honey.Honesty and Simplicity! It is my hope that we also offer the same experience to to new and existing customers. We are more than happy to answer questions and show our methods of raising food. It is through this open door policy, that we hope you can build a trust in us.
